The Neteru (also spelled Netjeru) are the divine cosmic forces of Ancient Kemet (Egypt), representing different aspects of creation, nature, and the human experience. They are not simply, gods, in the way Western traditions define them but rather archetypal energies and spiritual principles that exist throughout the universe. The word, Neter, means divine power or cosmic force, and each Neter represents a unique expression of the Divine Source, often referred to as Ra, Atum, Ptah, or Amun in different Kemetic cosmologies.
The Neteru were deeply interwoven into the daily life, philosophy, and spiritual practices of the ancient Kemetic people. They embodied natural elements, celestial forces, human virtues, and cosmic laws, guiding the spiritual evolution of those who honored them.
The Origins of the Neteru
Edit ImageAccording to Kemetic cosmology, the universe was birthed from Nun, the primordial waters of chaos. From this infinite void emerged the first creative force, often represented as Atum, Ptah, or Ra, depending on the tradition. This divine being then created the first generation of Neteru, who shaped the world, the laws of nature, and the cycles of life and death.
The most well-known mythologies of the Neteru come from the Heliopolitan, Memphite, and Theban traditions, each offering different perspectives on creation and divine order. However, all agree that the Neteru govern the cosmos through Maat, the principle of truth, balance, and harmony.
